Siegen. Foreign? Home?
3 May 2024 – 29 September 2024
Siegen is a multi-faceted city and migration a natural part of its history. As part of Siegen celebrating its 800th anniversary, this was revealed for the first time in the special exhibition held in the Siegerlandmuseum, titled “Siegen. Foreign? Home?”. Personal items belonging to persons who have experienced migration were placed in dialogue with objects from the permanent exhibition, and not only in an abstract sense. For the objects themselves told of the stories, memories, experiences and contexts to which they bear witness. And in this way, they blurred the boundaries between the supposed ‘own’ and ‘foreign’…
The exhibition integrated personal objects on loan into the permanent exhibition for the duration of the special exhibition. Each loaned object was paired with an object (or sometimes a group of objects) from the permanent exhibition, and together they formed a station within the special exhibition. Here, you can view the objects from each station and listen to the accompanying audio tracks. In these audio tracks, accessible via QR codes during the exhibition, the objects spoke about themselves and to each other. Through these dialogues, the relationships between the objects became visible. Continue to the audio contributions
